Event Review: Crescendo, date: 11 July 2008... Part1

hello and here i am blogging again. in fact, this post should be done yesterday... however, i was tired out and it was past midnight, so no matter what, it'll still be a 12 July 2008 post... =.=

Yesterday, Joshua, Aaron and I went for the Crescendo concert, Joshua went there because he had alot of time to spare, Aaron went there just to relax and me? i went there to do some proper reviews.... so in this 3 part special, let's kick off with the overview:

Name of event: Crescendo
Venue: Raffles Hotel, Jubilee Hall
Performers: Choir, Concert Band, Cultural Group, Dance Club, Drama Club, some solo performers (Elyse, See Long, Pearl, etc, etc..)

1. Venue: 7.5/10... makes me feel like i am in the 1920s in London, Britain.
well, even the hall is somewhat 1920s British feel, the wood trim on the seats and the way the wood trim comes off, lol! not just the wood though, even the whole place, the way it looked we're back into what could be the remnants of us being colonised by the plucky Brits... :)
so 2.5 points docked for the hall's space, or rather the lack of it, and those wood trims' eagerness of fall apart... let's move on to the performers....

2. Choir: 8/10: if only Joanne could stop hiding... still, better than i thought...
okay, right, we'll start with Choir, well, i know, i know, some of you may be thinking Wilson is going to spend his time raving on how good it was and how pretty some choir members looked... er, no actually... you see, i feel that during a choir performance, one should always use his/her ears not eyes... but i broke my rule here... =.= i used my ears and my eyes and my Cybershot...
now i must say, the choir members are the most understated of the whole concert. what i mean is that while the Concert Band have wierd hair that made them outstanding, the Dance have make-ups that made them flash, the Drama Club and the Cultural Group (CG) had very unique outfits. the choir somehow made do with what i call ''light make-ups'' and very plain gowns... however let's not forget that the Aston Martin DB9 is never flash nor too unique and its not what you call outstanding either... but yet few people, me included liked its pure understatment. er, did i forget that the voices are pleasant too?
overall, the singing was beyond expectations and i could have rated the whole presentation 9.5/10. but there is a problem with that...
you see, in my phone, i captured a picture of Wei Min looking elsewhere and Joanne keeps hiding herself... i felt like shouting, GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! still that's only half a point gone, the other point is contributed by Dance Club and Cultural Group (CG), as both outshone the Choir. still its a sterling effort by the Choir.. Cheers!

3. Concert Band: 8/10: somehow i quite liked their performance but they are overfeatured...
well, i will say the Concert Band did a great job in entertaining the audience, to be honest; did better than Choir. but then, i wished that they were not featured that often, it makes Crescendo looks like the ''Concert Band's concert''... still, their superb handling of their instruments impressed me... they got everything right there, however , 2 points off for 2 rather valid reasons:
1) their hairstyle, makes them look outstanding (wierd)...
2) Shi Min didn't bow properly, as observed by Joshua.

next part: Cultural Group, Dance Club, Drama Club assessed...
